The Swordsman is a unit of the Serpent Clan.
A wise Serpent daimyo knows that ferocity and cunning are quickest to grow in the downtrodden and naturally violent. Accordingly, most of their Swordsmen are recruited from the loudest, most arrogant bullies their taverns can offer.
Their experience in chaotic alehouse brawls lends them several talents, including a useful knack for dodging flying objects while running. Peasants who injure noblemen in such brawls are offered the "blade's choice": Either take up the sword in the noble's service, or die by his sword at dawn.
The Swordsman is an excellent tier-1 unit that can hold his own in melee combat in the early game due to his fast-hitting attacks, his ability to evade projectiles while running, and cheap techniques to boost his damage and health. In the mid to late game Bandit and Ronin starts to take replace Swordsmen in combat but Swordsmen can still keep up thanks to their battle gears.
The Glass Sword will instantly kill any non-Hero unit (strangely including four Zen Masters, the Brothers and the Nightvol) but the Swordsman may not run while wielding this BG and will die instantly after attacking (unless he's already got his health upgrade). The Mugging technique, however, is used more frequently since the Swordman can still run and needs to spend only his stamina to remove BGs from all enemies around the target he auto-attacks.
No Cost but stamina is depleted and does not regenerate.
|Requirements: Metal Shop||Requirements: Thieves' Guild|
|The Metal Shop employs arcane techniques that fuse glass with steel, forging these exquisitely deadly blades. They inevitably shatter on impact, but a single brutal stroke may slice a man's torso in half.||Unsurprisingly, many Swordsmen have friends in the Thieves' Guild. From them, they learn to snatch precious belongings from their enemies in the heat of combat.|
- "I obey..."
- "On my way...'"
- "The Serpent commands"
- "As you say"
- "For the Serpent!"
- "Cut them down!"
- "Take them out!"
- "Crush them!"
- "Death to our enemies!"
- "Beg for mercy"
- "Grovel, fool!"
- "For the Serpent!"
- "I'll teach them"
- "Bow to the Serpent"
- "Here's to your health!"
- "Ahhh... Better!"
- "Glass Sword" usage won't kill a swordsman at full health (312) with the "Fortified Ale" technique, however it will leave him with a miserable amount of health (72).
- "Glass Sword" kills a unit on horseback, leaving the horse untouched.
- Swordsman is the official "informator" of the Serpent clan, as one may hear his voice informing players about rice/watter insufficiency and victory/defeat.
